Beautiful Glenelg: more than a palindrome

Beautiful Glenelg: more than a palindrome

 Sat 20/2/2021

After many recommendations, we took the tram to Glenelg beach today.  So simple with the tram stop very close to our hotel and only a 37 minute ride to the beach.  I think we paid.

Like many city beaches, there were shops, nice buildings and a ferris wheel. It was very pretty and the Southern ocean was cool and beautiful.

We actually went on the ferris wheel despite Paul's phobia. It had perspex all around and there was no way to hang over the edge or fall out. Very safe and great views.

After surviving the ferris wheel, we walked down the length of the pier passing a private beach club with chairs and umbrellas for the privileged few.

We had a great view of the Southern Ocean

And people were fishing from the pier including a boy who had been on the tram with his fishing gear.  An old guy near us had made a comment to us about it being the wrong time of day and there were no fish etc etc.

As we walked past, the boy caught a fish, chased it as it flopped around on the pier and finally measured it to establish whether it could be kept. A crowd of people cheered when it was above weight. Paul was there to share his expertise.

It was such a beautiful day and neither of could remember why we had not brought our swimmers. At least we were able to wade in the beautiful warm water.

When in Glenelg, you have to have fish and chips at the local hotel.  So we did.

On the way back to the city, we also went to the iconic Adelaide city markets. So much food and good stuff. I bought a peach.

With another kilometre to get to our hotel, i finally saw an opportunity to ride an electric scooter. These are all over Adelaide and you can pick one up and then leave it when you are done. You can find them everywhere and you just leave them on the footpath.  What a fantastic idea.  I was dying to try one.  Paul was not interested and was in fact quite skeptical of my ability to ride one. He did not know of my experience with scooters in my youth. Some people rode bikes, i rode a scooter.

The hardest part was registering on line to use it, working out how to get the helmet unattached and how to start the thing. After that it was easy.

It was fun riding around the streets with Paul walking/running beside me. The scooters are electric and can get up to high speeds, probably.

After an afternoon rest, we went out for our last night in Adelaide. We returned to our favorite wine bar for a predinner drink

and then next door to a french restaurant-The Corner Bitrot

This restaurant was more our style,  with clientele older than us.
When we arrived there was only one other couple and we were seated near them. In conversation, we discovered they too were going on the Ghan tomorrow, they were staying at our hotel and one of them was a teacher,   Unbelievable.

We have really enjoyed our Adelaide trip and will definitely return.
Tomorrow  The Ghan (it rhymes with man) awaits.  And that other couple...
