Sydney Airport: Lost and Found

 Sydney Airport: Lost and Found

Thursday 18/2/2021

Finally we are on our holiday. After getting up at 2.30am to be at the airport for our 7.35 flight to Adelaide, we have arrived.

Sounds so easy and yet.....

Due to Covid (global pandemic),  South Australia, while letting in people from NSW, requires anyone from Greater Sydney, Central Coast and Wollongong to have a test on arrival and then self isolate for 24 hours.

To maintain our status as not being in the greater Sydney area etc, we are not able to stay in an airport hotel the night before our flight thus necessitating our early morning dash to sydney. Also means we are unable to stop anywhere  enroute. (No toilet stop!)

Do you know how hard it is to find the rental car drop off at Sydney Airport?

Bloody hard.

Only took a couple of circuits and asking a stray airport worker where the hell it was for us to find it. Actually in the arrivals area which tricked us as we were heading for departures.

No worries/no stress.Plenty of time.

How hard is it to check in using all the self service kiosk things?

Bloody hard.

Paul had cleverly  checked in on line and we had boarding passes on our phones. We still required help to print off the pass/ baggage tickets and then to actually check in the luggage.

The helpful arirport person agreed it was actually quicker the old fashioned way. (Sigh... it always is)

But once in, we head to the Business Lounge.  Yes, finally due to COVID (global pandemic),  Paul is able to use his qantas points to upgrade to Business class.  But on the flipside, due to COVID (global pandemic),  the services available are restricted. No self service in the lounge for example. Dreadful!

(Pretend there is a photo of business class lounge as my google phoots is have a technical difficulty)

And economy class don't get a meal on the plane but Business class still will apparently but probably not at the usual standard. Oh well.

The flight all goes well in Business class.  The seats are bigger and we have one stewardess for the 12 people in business class and we have a nice breakfast. Not quite as luxurious as i had imagined but only a short flight so hard to judge perhaps.

We arrive in Adelaide.  All very organised and efficient at the airport. Interestingly no one asked about whether we had been in Sydney and no mention of testing or even temperature checks.  Damn it, we could have stopped at the Central Coast toilet.

Adelaide is 37 degrees. Bloody hot.  But our hotel is beautifully air condtioned and right in the centre of great restaurants and shops. Excellent choice Paul.

But then disaster strikes.......
